Chrome App closes Roku Plex channel when connection initiated

Hi All,

A couple of weeks ago the Plex channel on my Roku started closing down whenever I tried to connect to it from the Chrome Plex App.

Tonight I got around to investigating a little, and have tried the following :

1. Factory reset and reload of app on Roku.
2. Restarted my Plex Server (Linux Mint)
3. Unloaded the Chrome App, rebooted, reloaded the app

All to no avail. Every time I try to connect the client to the Roku the channel shuts down and takes me back to the Roku main menu.

Connecting from a chrome web client works fine, everything is fine from the Roku directly.

Just the Chrome App that is playing up.

Any thoughts please?

So hopefully you guys can help.

Set up Plex on my laptop (Windows 10) and created some libraries. Worked perfectly. Downloaded the Xbox one app and was also able to access Plex without any problems.

Then on second day I cannot access Plex from my Xbox, so did a restart of Xbox, laptop and router. Now my Plex server does not start on laptop which makes no sense to me.

I just get this error message on laptop.

"The server "myservername" is unavailable Plex will automatically try to reconnect to this server"

Any ideas why this suddenly stopped working overnight and how to resolve?

Any help is much appreciated.

Updated to plexmediaserver-1.0.2.2413-7caf41d.x86_64 and using MacOS Sierra Public Beta 2, since then the plexmedia server update all videos are unplayable with the message "There was a problem playing this item." using the webapp via Safari on Sierra PB 2. The iOS app works still and no errors in the Plex Media Server.log on the PMS server. The server is CentOS 7.2 BTW. I realize I am using a beta OS and likely beta Safari as a client, but wanted to give folks a heads up.

Videos are stored on PMS server in mkv and mp4 format. No difference, neither play via web app.

Purging cache in Safari - no changes, still unable to play videos via PMS.

If I add a large number of episodes of the same TV show to Plex, after the media is added by Plex, it will display the new episodes, as a single item with a large number in the corner, under Recently Added Television. However, it only displays this one show, leaving the rest of the row empty. It's just wasted space and it doesn't look very good in between the On Deck row which is usually full, and the Recently Added Movies row which is always full. I assume this behavior is happening because Plex only processes X number of recently-added episodes for the Recently Added Television row, and so if you add X+1 episodes of a show, it won't detect any episodes past that show. It's not a huge issue, but it is exceptionally annoying when I move a TV show from one drive to another and it appears in Plex as a recently added show even though I just moved it. At that point, my friends can no longer see actually-recently-added TV, just the single show I moved between drives.

In the attached screenshot, I have just added the entirety of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. As you can see, even though this item has clearly been in my Library for a while (it only has 1 unwatched episode), it takes up the entire Recently Added Television row and, in my opinion, just looks bad.

This behavior may be intentional, I don't know, but I don't think so. It's not a huge deal, but now that Plex has hit the 1.x version, I think it's time to start polishing and being nit picky.

Hello.
So iv been using an odler version of plex for a while on windows 7 with wii u. Worked great.
Now iv started with windows 10 and plex Version 1.0.2.2413.

When trying to access the server from the wii u I use plex.tv/web. When i do this I first get an error before the site reloads into the server. It tries to connect and does so. But its whery unstable and looses conenction easily saying that " a secure conenction can not be established". I try to connedt unsecure but no go. I can see all my movies and series, just not play em or have a stable connection.
Any adjustments that can be made on the server for the wii U would be greatly aprisiated.

I run Plex server on my QNAP NAS.
I have three Pi2 running RasPlex in each of my rooms . So I can cast music from the NAS to each of them.
I control this via my phone (Android) or via the Plex Web app interface to the NAS.

When I select any of the Pi2s as a target on the web app for the 1st time, I also get a volume control on the right of the screen.

However, when I select another Pi2 or even the same one, again or after closing and re-opening the web app, the volume slider is often missing.
As the speakers are directly connected to an amplifier shield on each of the Pi2s, I have no way to control the volume at all any more. I must ssh into the Pi2s and use the command line.
Eventually the volume slider will re-appear in the web app, after a reload. But why and when I couldn't find a pattern in.

This seems to be a bug and it has persisted since I started using Plex in this setup (since March). I run the latest version of RasPlex, Plex for QNAP and use the latest chrome on OSX when using the web app.

Am I missing something? How can I get the volume control to persist?

P.S.: The Andoid app has no volume control, ever, when casting to the Pi2s. I.e. when I steer the casting from the NAS to the Pi2s via Android app, I have no way to control the volume of the playback.

This seems to be recent, though I've had this release since it was posted.

The version of Chrome that I'm using is 50.0.2661.26 beta-m (64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro with latest updates.

Works just fine with IE (ew).

Web GUI will load up then slowly fall apart, can't merge shows, starts locking on random objects. All seems fine with IE.

Thoughs?

I'm using the plex web app (Windows server version 0.9.12.4) to play music and cast it to a Chromecast. The "play", "play next", "add to up next" are working fine - music is playing. Yay.

After queueing up a few albums or many singles I have a long list of music in the queue. Often I want to review and modify the queue; I want to change the order of items in the queue, sometimes remove items. Basically I want to use play to DJ for a house party, etc and perhaps allow guests to update the queue as well

I found the "up next" function in the web app, and it does some of what I need. However I find it has limitations:

• I cannot see or scroll through the whole play queue. I can only see part of the play queue
• when there are more items in the queue than will display in the window, the items displayed are not the ones at the head of the queue. I cannot see the song that is next.

Is there a way to view and scroll through the entire play queue in the Plex Web app? I want to be able to do the following:

• view and scroll through the entire queue
• change the order of items in the queue
• remove items from the queue
• ideally I could use multiple select as well (I don't like implicit queues so often want to remove all of the songs added implicitly)

Safari 9.0 (and above) exposes an API to allow HTML5 audio and video to be streamed via AirPlay. More info on this is available here and here.

Safari 10.0 (and Safari Technology Preview) exposes an API to allow HTML5 video to participate in macOS (and iOS)'s Picture-in-Picture mode, where the video is popped out of the browser and floats above other content on the screen. More info on this is available here and here (implementation is the same for iOS and macOS).

This seems like something that could be implemented very easily and would benefit users of Safari greatly.

Vimeo has already implemented support for both of these features and both can be seen on any video on their site when using Safari 10 or Safari Technology Preview. Here is a link to a Vimeo video for your convenience.

I am interested in helping beta-test these features. Thank you for your time!

My many TV dvds have bonus features put in a folder called Season 00 (or Specials) per show. Using filebot, I've noticed the databases change and what was once called Show Name 1x03 is now Show Name S01E03. No big deal to update there. However, shows with tons of dvd extras that WERE in TVDB are often now gone. So I have shows where one or two bonus features are known, and some with tons that are not. (Examples are SNL, Freak And Geeks)

Plex Web app won't see them unless I manually add to each file name the header "show name - S00EYY - filename." If you grab Youtube items as extras, this accumulates quickly. After all that, PLEX Web now sees them, but they have no metadata to fetch so they list as Episode 91, Episode 46, etc. I now select EACH one, under edit hit info, copy the filename text and paste under general in the display name fields. Very tedious. One show had 100+ extras. I labeled that last handful 99a, 99b, 99c. They showed as one Episode 99. With no option in app to split, I manually renamed them 100, 101, etc. Now they show but Plex Webb 'forgot' ALL episode names prior to 99 and I have to start it over. If I added a 0 to each before 99 (ex. S00E049) I know I would have had this result too.

Does anyone have a way to batch process this? PLEX, please have a simple one click button to name special episodes by file name. Thank you!!

I just bought a Wii U.  I've read about using myplex on the Wii U browser, but I was wondering if there is a Plex app for the Wii U?  I haven't seen one on the nintendo store.

I nomrally download movies, etc, but I would be willing to pay for a Plex app on the Wii U.

 

Plex, will you consider taking my money in the future?

I have a number of movies that seem to be unavailable. There are 2 movie related folders on my drive, "Movies" and "Unwatched".
The "Unwatched" movies ARE available, the "Movies" are not. The only difference in the folders is the "Movies" are segregated into genres, the Unwatched are not.

The "Unavailable" button shows the location of the movie file as
Volumes/WD 2T /Video Library/Movies/Action - Crime/Now You See Me (2013) 1080p.mp4 Unavailable

What's odd is the space after the name of the drive - WD 2T /Video Library. This space does not appear on the info for the "Unwatched" movies.

Everything worked perfect for the last month! I have a plex pass and was able to access my library everywhere. Now for some reason I cannot find my server on plex. It only goes to a server that a friend is sharing with me, which I can access everywhere. When I look at it through media player, it shows my PC as Unauthorized. Logging in through my main account, I am unable to see anything to add files, update, or even locate my library. I think I may have logged out Media Server once and now cant get it back to my library.

Any Suggestions?

Plex Dashboard does not load in Safari. This issue started a few days ago. Dashboard works fine in Google Chrome.

In Safari, individual libraries display eventually display...they are slow. Again, things work as expected in Chrome. I've turned on the Develop menu in Safari to empty caches, change the user agent, etc. No luck so far.

Any ideas? Is anyone else seeing this problem?

I'm guessing it's just so if you have baby sitters over for example that they don't mess with your watched status (or need to know your pin) - or is there something I'm missing?

I'm also guessing I can't use it because without a pin my kids could see all the adult libraries :-)

I make small IT related videos for my users and have them on my Plex server in a home video library. Since the sorting of videos for Home Video Libraries doesn't take into account folder structures, I have to change the view to use the 'By Folder' option so I can navigate to the videos. Here's the problem: using the Plex Web app, I can open the library and change my view to 'By Folder'. However, my users don't get the 'By Folder' option when they try to change the view on their end.

At first I thought they were on the wrong screen but clearly the option is not present for them. I literally watch them log on to plex.tv, launch the plex player web app, open the library and when they click the down arrow where the 'By Folder' view option should be, it's not showing up. But it shows up for me when I launch the web app the exact same way. What am I missing here?

I read that I could use Plex to stream movies from my iMac to my Wii U. I've spent two hours this morning downloading all the relevant servers, configuring my accounts and uploading my media... only to find that the web app from the Wii U web browser won't work.

 

I've accessed my movies from my mobile phone so I know the account is all set up properly. When I go to the web app from the Wii U, no matter how many times I click on the small three bars in the upper left corner it won't open the menu - so I can't get to the server I've created!!

 

This is so frustrating. I've tried switching the web agent on the WII U browser to both Safari and Firefox agents (I've set up the web app to work with both browsers) but this made no difference.

 

Any one else had this problem? Any ideas?
