Plex Web Player not working on any Device

Hi there, I'm unable to get Plex Web to stream to any device, yet if I were to use Plex Home Theatre or Plex for Android it works perfectly fine.

It only operates on the localhost machine - http://i.imgur.com/i43MltG.png See Address used to connect, I cannot even connect directly to the server.

I've disabled the servers firewall just to see if that were the issue, along with its Antivirus. I've also made a DMZ exception in the router's firewall to the server. (It's port forwarded and working)

I can see the server from outside of my network using the dedicated applications.
Everything works just as it should besides Plex Web Player.
I've reinstalled the application to see if it was just a fault.

Cannot Create a New Artist

Often albums end up getting assigned to the Various Artists artist. I can select such an album and change its artist name to one that already exists. If that artist, however, does not yet exist in my library it always flips back to Various Artists.

Browsers: Chrome and Safari on Mac
Web Client: Version 2.6.1
Server: Version 0.9.16.6 on Mac

Plex Web Player Getting Stuck On One Song

For as long as I've used Plex, when I use the web player, frequently the first song will never finish playing. It will play about 3/4th of the track and then it goes into some kind of loop that never ends. I've waited through several Plex updates thinking this would surely be fixed soon, but it hasn't. Does anyone else experience the same problem?

How can a "guest"/friend download photos?

Hello,

So I noticed that when I login to a server that I "own" or "host" allows me to download photos that I have listed on the server. At the moment, I am using my server to allow friends and family to download photos for family events. However, I noticed that when one of them logins through the plex.tv web app, they don't have a "download" option listed.

How can I enable guests/friends to download photos hosted on my server?

Now that we have 'filter-by-resolution' (thanks!), it seems only natural to be able to also filter (and potentially sort) by audio channel count mono, stereo, 5.1 and 7.1.

Adjust theme music volume

How do I do that? It is generally playing at 100% volume, and for some songs it's even higher (depending on the source), but I would like it (normalised if possible, and) to be like say just 30%. Similar to what you can do in PHT.

Plex Web stutters to Direct Pay mp4 container, but Direct Stream is ok

I've got an issue with some of my media, which I've tracked down to direct play.

First my setup: I've got a quad core intel QNAP NAS serviing a quad-core iMac, connected by 1Gbe. Neither bandwidth nor CPU is an issue, and the media in question is 640p so this should be trivial to play.

However, with my default setup certain parts of some movies (completely reproducibly) fail to play smoothly, stuttering every second or so. Curiously, other parts of the same movie, and most other movies (including some 1080p content) are fine,

If I disable Direct Play, and allow the player to fall back to Direct Stream, the movie plays flawlessly. I don;t really understand this, because its an h264 encoded stream in an mp4 container so should be compatible for direct play without any need to transcode.

Suggestions?

Safari 9.0 and .srt Subtitles?

Today I noticed that Safari 9.0 won't play video with external subtitles added, unless the setting is set to Burn Subtitles "Always" correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure it has been working earlier maybe Safari 8.0 not sure.

The video file was a .mkv with .srt subs, so I would suspect it plays as Direct Stream, so now I tried to install Chrome and started same movie as before and instantly the movie started as Direct Stream with subtitles.

So is this something wrong with Safari or Plex or my settings?

Search results are limited to 15 items even if there are more

Hi!

I have a lot of live shows stored on my plex server, so there are several tracks with the exact same name but from different shows. I found that if I search for a specific track, it will only return 15 tracks at most even though I know more than that exist. Often times I will want to see when a song was last played or how many times it has been played so far, but since not all search results are returned, there's no way for me to do that.

Is there a way to remove the 15 results limit? Or can this be fixed? I would love if all results were returned.

Some music files not playing in Plex Web, but do play on mobile apps

I am having problems with some music files in Plex Web, but not device apps ( iPhone and iPad tested ). When I try to play Purple Rain on my Web app, it shows that the song is loading but doesn't move from 0:00 and then times out, moving on to the next song on the album. Curiously this is true of everything in that folder. I have checked the ACLs on the file system, and they are the same as other functional folders. I can play these songs by browsing to the SMB share and playing through a local media player, so there isn't anything wrong with the files. Not sure what is happening here --- any help?

When playing a video with subtitles enabled I get an error...

When playing a video with subtitles enabled I get an error "There was a problem playing this item" yet if I set the subtitles to none it works I don't know if this problem was fixed in a new update which if it was then I'll have to find a way to update it considering I have no internet right now (I'm on mobile data right now btw) but if it hasn't please help me find a way

[Papercut] Plex Web shouldn't skip item when encountering an error

Sometimes Plex encounters an error when showing me TV shows. That's not what this post is about, those things can be caused by a number of reasons, for instance switching between transcoding quality etc.

The problem is that when an error is encountered, Plex Web says that an error occurred and that it switches to the next item, i.e. the next episode in the series. Five seconds later, the switch is made and it starts playing the next episode.

I think this is the wrong behavior. If an error occurs, it should instead halt and not advance, otherwise it can spoil the current episode. Also, this behavior is not consistent between platforms as this does not appear to happen on Android.

Thoughts on this? I think this is a simple fix that should be uncontroversial.

Video playback doesn't work in Vivaldi

I've been using the Vivaldi browser lately, which is Chromium based so it should work the same and it has with I believe all other services I've used (save for Netflix, which only required user agent spoofing to get working). However, video playback always results in a "There was a problem playing this item". My music library works just fine though and the regular Chrome browser still works. It seems my flash and widevine plugins are up to date in Vivaldi as well and spoofing the user agent didn't change anything so I'm pretty clueless as to what the issue might be right now.

Updated Dashboard : The Entire Song Needs To Buffer Before Playing?

Ever since the dashboard updated (awesome job by the way PLEX team), it seems when I listen to music, I have to wait for the whole song to buffer to start playing? This is odd. The previous version of then dashboard it played seamlessly, as soon as one song ended, the next started to buffer and play.

As you could imagine this could potentially leave a large gap of silence in-between the end of one song and the beginning of another starting to play ...

Am I missing something? Do I need to adjust something in settings?

And insight wild be greatly appreciated ... once again, great job on the new web player

Using this config.

But most of the times plex needs to transcoding using source quality,

Do i need to convert all the media to .mp4?

I feel stupid asking this as I have edited it before but I have spent hours today reading forums and researching, all for nothing. Either Plex is not user-friendly or I am an idiot.

I don't want to see my recently added content on my dashboard, how do I remove it?

Alert 8-10 times a minute 'remote user has started playback of X'

- I have plex web open for a very long time (several hours). I just minimise the browser and bring it up occasionally.

- a user streams remotely

- sometimes the alert log starts to fill with messages:

'UserX started playback of Y'

it is about 8 to 10 alerts per minute.

Each of them is 'toasted' too. It goes on and on and on.

 

I can only end this by closing the browser and open it anew.

After that, the recurring alerts seize.

 

During all this, the remote user is happily streaming away without noticing anything.

I clicked the button to enable remote access via the web settings. Server mapping shows all gray and two red x's.
I clicked manually specify port. Private/public are good. Green arrow present. Red x and grayed out internet.
What do I do now?
