[BUG] New Plex Web Media Player - Doesn't throttle transcoder

Hello, I noticed when someone is using the web app with Microsoft Edge the transcoder does not follow the server side throttle settings. It will continue to transcode the media until the entire file is transcoded. I mean this isn't too much of an issue, but seems like a lot of wasted server side resources. I can request the user to stop using Edge, he is notorious for pausing and only watching in short bursts or stopping frequently. Just was curious if this was a known issue as it takes a lot of cpu power to fully transcode a movie only to have the stream stopped 20 minutes later.

Edit 2: I tried to stream in the local web app and it throttles correctly. The new web app on app.plex.tv does not follow the transcoder settings.

please help, An error occurred loading items to play

has anything changed in the last 2 weeks. I am not able to play any music or video and get an error message "An error occurred loading items to play" when using safari web browser and have not been able to watch anything via the apps on iPad, iPhone or apple TV

Photo Album Posters/Background

Am I just being dense or is there no way to easily set a photo as the poster/background in a album?  It seems to me that it would automatically make a poster and background for an album, say from the first image in the album, but it doesn't.  I then figured, well, surely I can just drag one of these images to the poster area, but no.  So the only way I see to do it is just like the other sections, click the empty poster, and add an image manually - which means dragging an image out of the browser, saving it, then dragging it back into the poster area.  I'm thinking I must be missing something...?

 

Really pleased with the updates to the photo areas otherwise.

When will the mouse wheel controls for volume be coming back?

This was the perfect control for the volume while watching movies via LED projector. I could take my Bluetooth mouse with me to the table and tweak the volume wherever I sit.

Please bring it back, we miss it!

Also, what's the deal with the close and min/max buttons swapping?! You're killin me smalls!

How do I do a library refresh on the new web portal?

It appears that plex just did a substantial change to the web-based portal. And now I can't figure out how to refresh a library.

There used to be a refresh icon on the bar across the top. It's gone now. How do I trigger a refresh?

Like... I just added a new movie, mp3, or directory of photos. What do I click on now to get it loaded?

Plex wont scan all episodes

HI,

I have a Plex Media Server running on linux. Works quite well. But I have a problem with a TV show of several seasons.
It has 22 seasons, but each season has no more than 40 files.
The files I have renamed them using RENAMER. I have other TV show and they are very well. The files have the following format:

the_name.SnnEnn.the_description.ext

Each season has its folder with the name "Season 01 ~ Season 22"
Plex app only shows me the seasons from 1 to 6 complete and season 20 with 1 single file, the last one.
I have reviewed the logs and in the file "Plex Media Scanner.log" shows me:

"DEBUG - Adding file for scanner: /the/path/to/Show/Season nn/the_name.SnnEnn.the_description.ext"

and this for the 22 seasons.
I selected to see the TV show by folders. When I browsed the TV show with problems, it showed me the 22 folders of the seasons, but when I wanted to enter the seasons that does not show me in the thumb mode, a message appears saying that it is empty. Obviously it is not.

Another thing I did was to review the information of one of the videos and in the XML mode I could see that it has the correct ID. (thetvDB)

Could someone give me an explanation? Or how to solve it?

Videos (Repeat Mode) in Plex Web

Many of my music files are music videos, but there is no repeat function for videos. Is there some bug/feature tracker I can request this in?

Subtitles have to be turned on/off

Every time I start playing something, I will have to pick subtitles on/off in order to apply them. Some times I even have to set it to "none" and then it will actually apply the subtitles. Is there a fix coming for this issue? I am on latest Chrome on latest MacOS.

Web App Version 3.20.4 won't stream remotely - Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item...

Plex version 1.8.3.4235 .

Scenario: I connect home using a VPN and I told Plex to treat everything that is not the local network as external.

It was working before the latest update and it still works on my Android phone (Using Plex Android App). But if I try to use the Web App when streaming remotely I get:
"Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item. Required bandwidth is 2732kbps and only 720kbps is available."

No difference of behavior between Chrome and Firefox.

I believe it's bug but who knows.

3.20.4 Have to click pause/play to get video playing

Hi,
starting with 3.20.4, after clicking on play, the web player opens but the orange circle keeps circling forever. I have to click pause and play, and the video starts playing. Happens with all my videos.
Quite an annoying bug.
Running PMS on Debian Jessie.
A fix would be greatly appreciated.

What does the error "shaka1001 (Network)" mean?

I have searched high and low and nothing explains this error.

shaka1001 (Network)

This was during playback of a television show from a Plex Cloud server (Version 1.5.2.246) using the Plex Web App (Version 3.17.3) on a Windows 10 machine in Chrome (Version 59.0.3071.115)

Any explanation as to what this error translates to?

I own, and have tried nearly all iterations of all of your available players for years now. I've decided to stick with the web player for watching on my computer with dual monitors. I am really going to miss being able to scroll-wheel adjust volume without having to focus the player window. The latest version has me clicking and dragging on a tiny volume bar I've never had to navigate over until now. New version is pretty, but c'mon with the mobile-first everything.. you internet. Don't make my mouse hand work unnecessarily.

Plex Cloud / OneDrive library keeps disappearing!

I have to say, Plex Cloud is awful. This is now the second time my movie library simply disappears! I have to then either refresh the metadata or rebuild the library. Why is this happening so often? Plex on my local server worked flawlessly.

Subtitles Crashing New Transcoder

Ever since the implementation of the new transcoder subtitle files are constantly crashing the transcoder.

For example if you have a subtitle showing within the first minute of a file, crash.

There are also other situations crashing the transcoder but I am not sure specifically what in the subtitles is crashing it. Prior to this forced transcoder flip to the new transcoder. (which seemed to align with the plex web app interface update) I only had like 1 file I couldn't play because of ridiculous coding for a karaoke for an anime. Which made sense. However simply having a blank sub line within the first second. Does not make sense and needs to be fixed.

Internet Explorer 11 wont play MKV or AVI files since updating server to 1.8.3.4235

Yesterday, I was playing various .mkv and .avi files in Internet Explorer 11 without any issues. Last evening, I updated the server to version 1.8.3.4235, and now, every .mkv or .avi I try to play produce the error

Playback Error
Streaming this media is unsupported.

This happens on multiple computers. Trying to stream the same files in Chrome and Firefox works just fine.

I have already tried uninstalling Flash and then reinstalling, verifying that IE has the Add-on Enabled, but that didn't help. When I scan the plex server logs, I don't see any indication that the request to play the .mkv or .avi files is even reaching the server to process, so it would suggest that Internet Explorer is making the decision that it is not able to play these files before ever even contacting the server(?).

Other than updating the Plex server to the newest version last night, no other changes have been made on any of these computers that I have tested from.

UI Mouse/volume

UI just updated. General changes and look are fine, but the mouse used to turn up/down volume using the scroll function natively. (windows 10, chrome, web app) seams like this was a nice feature. I guess I can macro the Logitech mouse to do the same function, but would be nice if that was native again. This looks like a forum post, is there a better place to post my observation/suggestion to fix for the Plex developers?

Selected bitrate does not match transcode

Selecting a transcode option from the menu during playback does not always cause PMS to transcode to the selected option.

For example, when playing a 10.5 Mbps 1920x800 source, selecting "Convert (2 Mbps, 720p, HD)" initiates a transcode to 720x300.

Unable to Play Watch Later YouTube videos on Plex Web

There is an issue with Plex Web for Chrome playing YouTube Watch Later videos. They just sit there loading forever.

There was an issue with PMS for Windows v1.5.2 being unable to transcode YouTube videos, but that issue has been resolved in PMS for Windows v1.5.6 and later. I know this issues is resolved because the Plex app for Roku must trancode some YouTube Watch Later videos and they play and transcode fine on the Plex app for Roku using PMS for Windows v1.5.6 or later.

The same YouTube Watch Later videos will direct play on the iOS app and transcode on the Roku app. But I have tried playing these YouTube videos in Plex Web v3.2.1, v3.4.1, and v3.6 in Chrome and they just sit there loading forever.

I even tried disabling Direct Play under Settings > Plex Web > Player, but they still will not play.

My Plex media server says that a new version, 1.8.3.4235 is available but all the release notes say is (Web) Updated Plex Web to 3.20.4. So.... what does this add, fix or change?
